Banking Access and the National Bank On Movement - Recorded March 2021
Did you know that approximately 4.6 percent of Ohio households are unbanked? An even larger percentage of households are underbanked meaning that they are using high cost alternative financial services and they are not building a banking relationship. The average unbanked household spends five to ten percent of their income on banking services though they aren’t at a bank. In addition to the financial costs, those that are unbanked are far less likely to achieve desired outcomes such as saving, paying down debt, and improving or establishing a credit score. The good news is that a national program with local affiliates, Bank On, is successfully bringing people into banking through connecting public and private payment streams to low-cost, safe, and fully usable checking accounts. The OBL held a webinar to explain this initiative to members. Check out this free webinar for details and information.
