In a U.S. Senate hearing today on central bank digital currencies, Subcommittee Chairwoman Elizabeth Warren called on lawmakers and regulators to face issues surrounding cryptocurrency "head on."
Warren, a 2020 candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, attacked cryptocurrencies for helping to facilitate recent ransomware attacks against Colonial Pipeline and meat producer JBS.
"Congress and federal regulators can't continue to hide out, hoping that crypto will go away. It won't. It's time to confront these issues head on," she added. "Legitimate digital public money could help drive out bogus digital private money."
